John Evans

Originally from Chicago, John has always loved working with his hands.Years ago, when he fixed a jump ring on a friend’s chain, the wonderful journey into metalsmithing began. He searched for resources online to fuel his passion (which back then were not as easily available). To quote John, “ I understand the need for CraftArtEdu, helping people looking to hone their skills and beginners looking to learn new ones.”

Gold, Silver, Niobium and Titanium are the metals John loves to work on. He also works with Mokume Gane, Shibuichi, Copper, Brass and Steel. Texture, color or simplicity are things that catch his eye. Although inspired by nature and Native American art, not all his work reveals that. John loves talking about metals and teaching others, and feels we are never too old or young to learn and create.

John’s education started online looking for knowledge where he could find it. Living in Southwest Missouri at the time, he enrolled in a Silversmith 101 class at OTC and knew it was meant to be. He then moved to Wisconsin to attend the Howard Academy of the Metal Arts. While studying under William Howard, he won first place earrings at the Wisconsin Jeweler’s Association Design Competition and went on to win first place for handmade chains and objects of art at the Midwest Jewelers Trade Show. He has taught workshops and now resides in Florida.
