Lyn Belisle
Lyn Belisle’s first passion is the power of art - it humanizes and joins us because it helps us communicate in a universal non-verbal language. Lyn is committed to her own work and growth as a creative artist. Her second passion is the power of the networked global village. It allows us to share cultural understanding and nuances that promote tolerance and respect. Lyn’s goal is to teach art and spark creativity as a way to share our collective "people-ness" through our images and ideas.
Paper, paint and earthenware are Lyn’s favorite tools for art-making. She loves creating fired earthenware faces and fragments that she calls “earthshards” and incorporating these into collage constructions. Collage in general is her favorite genre, ranging from repurposed Renaissance images to contemporary interpretations of Asian transfer prints. She also paints large acrylic works-on-canvas. Recently Lyn’s been working with encaustic as a collage medium. Mixed-media is her mantra, and her favorite phrase to hear from her workshop participants is, “I amazed myself!”
Trained in college as a studio artist, Lyn taught art to challenged, at-risk high school students for over thirty years. Graphic design has always been a second career and she teaches it now on the university level. She opened her own studio in January of 2013 and offers workshops on collage, clay and creativity. Lyn is represented by two galleries in San Antonio, Texas, and she’s won awards for her paintings and clay work and writes articles about the creative projects and process.
