Brent Pallas
Brent started out doing toy design, packaging and graphics, mostly freelance for companies and editorial illustration. Now he mainly creates editorial craft projects for magazines. The challenge for Brent is to keep it simple. He has found it's easy to make something complicated, hard to keep it simple. He likes projects, especially for kids, where you can see a photo and say to yourself, "Oh, I can see how it's made."
He has done quite a few projects that involve recycling materials, reusing oatmeal boxes, popcorn packing peanuts, bottles and cans. He lives in a high-rise in NYC, so they really know him in the garbage room where he often visits gathering materials. You would not believe what people throw out. He found a brand-new vacuum cleaner once! The problem? Its hose was clogged up. He loves making things out of paper cups and plates too.
Brent has done classes. He is also a writer and has worked in The Southern Review, The Missouri Review, Poetry and other journals. The last few years has begun taking photos. His first solo show will be at a school in North Carolina in February 2012.
