Cosmic Honu Silver Pendant with Gordon K. Uyehara

This project is a study in multipart construction of dimensional parts. It is simple in concept but challenging in execution. We'll explore various ways to decorate your Honu (sea turtle) to make it unique.

In class you will make and learn to create a dimensional pendant of multiple parts, construction strategies, smoothing fills, planning, making and adding decorations, Keum Boo, and how to enhance with a patina.

Class Materials List

• Regular metal clay tools: rigid and non-stick work surfaces, roller, graduated slats, craft knife, paint brush
• Syringe clay (at least 5 gm.) with medium tip
• ACS Overlay Paste or essential oil paste (small amount, optional)
• Clear acrylic rectangle (snake roller without handle, optional)
• 6 mm round bead
• 3/16-inch diameter wooden dowel or similar drying form
• Coarse salon board or nail tool
• 400 and 600-grit sandpaper
• Hair blow dryer
• Fiber kiln shelf
• Fiber blanket or vermiculite
• Liver of sulfur or patina gel (optional)
• Sunshine polishing cloth or similar
• Scratch brush

For Keum-Boo:
• 24K Gold foil (not leaf)
• Burnishers, at least two
• Fine tweezers
• Precision scissors (optional)
• Leather gloves
• Single stove burner with brass sheet
