Petal Beads from Complex Skinner Blended Canes with Sarah Shriver

Make colorful petal shaped beads from polymer clay. This is an intermediate and advanced class taught by Sarah Shriver. The focus is on building, reducing and manipulating a complex block of Skinner blends. From this students will build patterns to be used as veneers on petal shaped beads. There is an overview of sanding and finishing.

Class Materials List


•Polymer clay- 2 ounces each of the following:
     o white, ivory, golden yellow,
     o ochre, magenta, red,
     o turquoise, green and black,
     o (or colors of your choice!).
• Pasta Machine (Atlas is most durable).
• Acrylic roller
• Metal ruler
• Tissue blade

Materials for Finishing:
• 3 different grits of 3M Sanding Pads (Fine, Superfine, & Microfine)
• "Nexcare" waterproof foam adhesive tape
• Slow Cure Cyanoacrylate glue
• Black Round elastic Cord
• Spacer beads with holes large enough for elastic to go through
• 1/64th inch Drill Bit set into a hand tool or... (optional) used in a Dremel Drill set into a Dremel drill press
• Soft cotton polishing cloth, or... (optional) Foredom variable speed buffing wheel, with 4" cotton wheel
