Erin Beckloff

Miami University

Erin Beckloff shares her knowledge of and passion for letterpress with her students — and anyone she meets for that matter. Her desire to preserve this historic process drives her as an educator, printer and designer. She is inspired by printers, both young and (mostly) old, that she has met in her letterpress adventures and plans to keep learning everything she can about the craft from their experiences.

Once an essential trade, the traditional printing process of letterpress has evolved into an art form. Erin works on vintage printing presses, a Vandercook No. 4 cylinder and Platen presses, handsetting 100 year old wood and metal type fonts. She creates posters, invitations, postcards, and fine art broadsides. In her work she features unique typography, much available only in historic movable type.

Erin earned her BFA in Graphic Design from Miami University. She studied letterpress through practical application, an internship at Hatch Show Print and workshops at the Hamilton Wood Type & Printing Museum. As Part-Time Visiting Faculty at Miami U., she developed a Letterpress and Book Arts course and maintains the Curmudgeon Press type shop. She also runs Inky Winke, her letterpress and design business.
